One person has been seriously injured in an early morning crash in South Waikato.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the crash between a truck and a car between Putāruru and Tokoroa about 3.30am.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said one person was taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

Fire and Emergency NZ said three crews from Putāruru were called to the crash and one remained at the scene.

NZ Transport Agency said SH1 was under stop/go management near Te Rere Rd due to the crash.

“Allow extra time for delays.”
