A truck crash north of Rotorua has spilled hazardous materials across a state highway.

The highway was closed earlier this morning, but is now under stop/go traffic management, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said.

A police spokesperson said they were notified at 5.45am that a truck and car had collided on SH36.

“One person is reported to have minor-moderate injuries.

“There is diesel and debris on the road.”

People were advised to expect delays in the area and to allow an extra 90 minutes for detour routes.

Meanwhile, Te Rapa Rd in Hamilton is also closed following a serious crash just after midnight.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash in Beerescourt around 12.30am.

The road is closed between Forest Lake Rd and Vardon Rd, with the public advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

Police said they could not confirm any information regarding injuries at this stage.

And in the South Island, a truck-and-trailer crash on SH1 is also causing delays for Ōamaru residents.

The crash happened around 3.10am, between Sandringham St and College St.

No serious injuries were reported but the road is partially blocked and drivers are advised to take a different route if they can.
