Emergency services were called to a street in the centre of Taupo after reports of an explosion.
A fire service spokesman said crews were called to the scene, at 73 Titiraupenga St, near Pak 'n' Save, and have cordoned off a transformer.
Despite reports of a loud bang, fire crews
said there were no signs of explosion.
They are awaiting the arrival of power authorities and some residents have reported a power outage.
