Three helicopters have rushed to the scene of a serious two-car crash on State Highway 35 in the Bay of Plenty.

Police said emergency services were called to the scene about 5.50pm.

“Three people have received serious injuries and are receiving medical attention.”

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and motorists are advised there will be delays to their journey.

Hato Hone St John said three helicopters, two rapid response vehicles, one prime doctor, one first responder, one ambulance and one operations manager were called to the incident.

“We are treating three people in a serious condition who will likely be transported via helicopter to either Waikato or Tauranga Hospital.”
