Three Kawerau men have been jailed for 12 and a half years for their part in the shooting of two men in the township in September.

In the High Court at Rotorua today Justice Graeme Lang convicted and sentenced Derek Maynard Savage, 52, Deuce Derrick Junior Evo Rua Savage, 23, and Terere Kiwaho MacDonald, 29.

They each received 12 and-a-half years, with a minimum non-parole period of six years and three months, for discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

In addition Justice Lang sentenced Deuce Savage to two years and three months on a charge of aggravated robbery, and demanding with intent to steal in relation to a previous offence.

Terere MacDonald was also sentenced to 18 months for aggravated robbery.

The latter sentences for both Deuce Savage and MacDonald are to be served concurrently.

The main conviction related to the shooting of Jeremy August and Gavin Pirini at Mr August's house in September.

The previous offending occurred last August when Deuce Savage had used standover tactics to demand $200 and cannabis from another victim.

In sentencing the trio, all Mongrel Mob members, Justice Lang said there was no doubt the offending was in the context of the Mongrel Mob wanting to impose a presence in the township.
