Rotorua Work and Income is operating on limited access today after a threat was allegedly made to staff.

Work and Income regional director Ski Wisneski said the threat was made around 8.45am and the building was put into lock down until about 10am.

He said any threats made were taken seriously by the agency.

The doors are currently manned by security guards who are only letting in people with appointments or those there for seminars.

A police northern communications spokesman said the alleged threat was made over the phone and police were speaking to a man.
