Nick Beamish is beaming after making NZCT AIMS Games history.
The 13-year-old Rotorua Intermediate student is the only player to take the tennis championship two years running since the games started in 2004.
Beamish confidently beat Te Kowhai School's Anton Shepp in last week's final, dominating both sets to win6-2 6-2.
Although Beamish planned to keep it humble, with no plans for a celebration, he let a little pride creep in when he said he didn't expect anyone to match his two-year record anytime soon.
His dad and coach, Guy Beamish, was extremely proud of the record and his son's dedication to training.
"It really showed in the final, considering he played two games of soccer beforehand," Guy said.
Beamish is a rising tennis star and Tennis NZ helped send him to an international training camp in Amsterdam three months ago.
Rotorua Intermediate deputy principal Hinei Taute said everyone at the school was happy for Beamish, and his hard work made him a player to watch out for. "It's a sport he's dedicated to, and I'm sure he'll go a long way," Taute said.
