A 19-year-old woman has been airlifted after falling from her horse in the Bay of Plenty.

The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was sent just before 2pm yesterday to a farm near Te Teko where the teenager, who was taking part in an organised hunt, had fallen from her horse, injuring her head and leg.

She was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

A Tauranga Hospital spokesman said the woman was in a 'stable and comfortable' condition today.
