Young Taupo motorsport driver and 2017 Speedsport Scholarship winner Conrad Clark has made a sizzling start to his scholarship, taking wins in the first and second rounds of the Manfeild Winter Series.
Conrad, 14, who is a student at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College, took his maiden race victory at the first roundof the Manfeild Winter Series at Queen's Birthday Weekend in just his second Formula First race.
He took victory in race two of the day.
He followed that up with a second win in the Manfeild Winter Series earlier this month to move into second overall in the series.
In May Conrad won the Speedsport Scholarship, a year-long motorsport scholarship to help young drivers along the path to a professional driving career.
The scholarship, from Sabre Motorsport, gives Conrad a fully-funded season's driving in a Formula First car, racing the four-date winter series at Manfeild and a further eight at the National series on tracks around the North Island, including Taupo.
Dennis Martin of Sabre Motorsport says Conrad has now won two races from six starts in the Manfeild Winter Series and holds second in the points standings, just 38 points off the lead with two rounds to come.
The scholarship team is putting the finishing touches to Conrad's new scholarship car for the third round on August 5 and 6, which will feature a $3000 data logging system to assist him and the team to tune the car.
