Police have released the names of two people who died after a single-car crash in Acacia Bay, Taupō in January.

Police have released the names of two people who died after a single-car crash in Acacia Bay, Taupō in January.

They were Purity Anne Te Pairi and Tamatoa Kimi, both aged 19, from Taupō.

“Our thoughts are with the whānau of those involved,” police said.

“Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.”

The crash happened on Mapara Rd on the night of January 17.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash at about 11.45pm.

Diversions were in place overnight while the Serious Crash Unit carried out an examination.

The road reopened shortly after 7am the next day.
