The crash was reported at about 6.30am on State Highway 1.

A section of State Highway 1 between Taupō and Tūrangi will remain closed for most of the day, following a truck crash this morning.

The crash happened near Te Poroporo / Bulli Point at about 6.30am, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said in a statement.

One person was initially said to have received minor injuries, but Waka Kotahi’s update said no one was harmed.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said in an update about 2pm the road was closed between the SH 41 junction at Tūrangi and Taupō to recover the truck and trailer, which rolled onto its side.

The trailer’s load remained contained.

The closure was likely to last until about 6-7pm this evening.

“Unfortunately the highway is too narrow here to enable vehicles to pass the crane.”
