A tanker has gone off the road on Thornton Rd near Whakatāne this afternoon.

A tanker has gone off the road on Thornton Rd near Whakatāne this afternoon.

A tanker has crashed near Whakatāne.

A police spokeswoman said the back of a truck and trailer unit “appeared to have veered off the side of the road”.

Police were called about 12.50pm.

“No one is reported to be injured, however, the northbound lane of Thornton Rd is currently blocked,” the spokeswoman said.

Traffic management is being put in place.

A photo of the crash scene showed the back of the tanker leaning in the ditch beside the road.
