Psychic and author Kelvin Cruickshank will visit Rotorua for the launch of his fifth book and if you are there, it's because you are meant to be.

Mr Cruickshank, who was on popular TV show Sensing Murder, will talk about his book Taking the Journey and open the floor for any spiritual questions.

The book had something of value for many people to help them expand their spirituality, he said.

"I would say it's a lot deeper than the last four and is more inspirational. It goes into issues more deeply, and backs spiritual stuff up with scientific proof so it's a different read because when I say I talk to dead people they get freaked out so most people want scientific proof which shows people that what we are doing is real.

"We can take a spiritual journey through meditation and learning to understand how to do that and to communicate with your spirit, that is called taking the journey, but there is a lot of things in there that help people to get to that level."

He was excited to be visiting the Rotorua area, which holds special significance for him.

"Rotorua is quite special for me so it's good to be heading home. My koro is buried in Lake Tarawera and I spent a bit of my life down there, I have whanau down there," he said.

"People that are meant to be there on the night are meant to be there. We will have a conversation about spiritual awareness and the book and it will be a good night. There is nothing to be scared of.

"It is a positive experience, at the end of the day we are talking about the book, people in the audience might want to ask me what about this dream or when I am thinking of someone.

"I really do think the whole key to this is if you feel like you should come along, you would be most welcome, and you might learn something different which could change your life for the better - you don't know. We are talking about people's lives and people that have gone over."

-An Evening with Kelvin Cruickshank is at Rydges on Fenton St from 6pm on Wednesday. Tickets are $40 for the show or $75 for show and buffet. Bookings are essential, call Rydges Rotorua Atrium Restaurant (07) 349 5389.
