Swim Rotorua is celebrating after a successful campaign at the Bay of Plenty Rising Stars meet.

The club raced to eight overall age-group medals and 58 individual age-group top-three placings with some impressive personal bests posted at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre on Saturday.

The annual event showcased swimmers in the tier under national-ranked athletes, with national-ranked swimmers aged 13 and over and 12 and under who medalled at the Junior Festival unable to attend.

Swim Rotorua females led the charge, emerging as the top Bay of Plenty girls team. That, added to the boys' score, with a small team of 13 Swim Rotorua athletes, meant the local outfit finished as second best club in the region.

Some of the standout performances of the day included Swim Rotorua's Kirsty Lyall, 14, who won gold for her overall age group and won seven races.

Karolina Joyce, 9, won silver in her age group after she won three races and came second in five.

Other local swimmers to win silver in their age group were Rebecca Lyall, 13, Stella Weston, 11, Dion Wright, 11, and Ariel Muchirahondo, 8.

Bronze winners were Alex Cameron, 12, Miki Joyce, 10, and to cap the competition off the relay 12 and over team of Kirsty and Rebecca, Alex and Dion took second place in the 4x50m freestyle relay.
