Swamp Thing: Gig a fundraiser for US trip

Swamp Thing celebrate the launch of their new DVD and album with an outdoor gig at Okere Falls Store tonight.

The show, which will be in a covered outdoor setting, is not only a chance to help the band fundraise for their trip to the United States but it's also an opportunity to hear some new songs.

Michael Barker and Grant Haua head off to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in April for a month as artists in residence.

Before they leave, they're putting on a two-and-half-hour show for locals to enjoy. Their Let's Get Live DVD and album, which was recorded at Okere Falls Store in May, will be for sale so fans can make sure they keep getting their Swamp Thing fix while they're away.

"We've become known for having a high energy show," said Barker.

"But a couple of our new songs are ballads. They put a bit of light and shade into our shows."

He said he and Haua were looking forward to heading overseas and learning from other musicians.

"We're constantly learning. I think for anyone in a creative field you're only limited by your imagination and motivation.

There's no support act, just Swamp Thing on stage from 7pm.

Their Let's Get Live recording has been mixed, mastered and edited to give fans a chance to have Swamp Thing play live wherever they are.
