The National Ambulance Sector Office proposes to remove the Rotorua-based rescue helicopter. Philips Search and Rescue Trust's preference is for helicopters based in Tauranga and potentially Taupo to fill the gap. Residents give their thoughts.

I think they do a good job and we definitely need them in Rotorua. Just like the ambulance service, they should get better funding.

I think we should have one based here. I really do think it is essential. I know people who have been saved by it.

It would be a great loss for the district, due to the popularity of mountain biking and all the other outdoor activities.

The proposal is quite disappointing and a bit strange. Taupo Hospital is much smaller. Rotorua seems like a good area to base it in.
