Floodlights at Rotorua International Stadium are getting a sprucing up ahead of the Steamers' first game and the Rugby World Cup.
The lights have been in place since 1998 so it's about time they were looked at, Events and Venues operations manager Crispian Stewart said.
"We're cleaning the lenses and firming up
the direction of the lighting to make sure they're facing the right direction," Mr Stewart said.
"They've not been looked at for some time. There were two or three bulbs out so they will be replaced."
Wet weather and high winds have put back the maintenance, with it being at least 10 days before anyone could get up in the crane, but all work will be finished in time for the Steamers' match against Waikato on July 26. There are about 200 bulbs total in the floodlight towers.
"It will be ready, even though the weather's not helping," Mr Stewart said.
"These towers were put up in 1998 and technology has moved quite a bit but they still do the job. We've also put in more TV lines for extra services [for the Rugby World Cup]. The media requests are quite major in terms of hosting. We're putting in lots of extra data cables.
"We'll probably leave most of it in place as it will cost more to remove. It might be some sort of Rugby World Cup legacy."
