Buskers competing at tonight's GLO Spot buskers competition are already getting a taste of potential stardom as the online competition has created an unexpected spin-off and demand from sporting bodies for halftime crowd entertainment.

The top 10 buskers chosen by online voting from an initial 24 performances will all compete at the finale tonight at the Government Gardens.

Glo Festival organiser Tia Smith said to have the competition in this format was unusual but popular.

"Both the Waikato BOP Magic Netball and BOP Rugby Sevens have asked us for the database."

In the week the 24 performances have been on You Tube some have clocked up hundreds of views. Ms Smith said bringing them all together in one competition had created a momentum she didn't really expect with the franchises wanting to use the database.

"It gives some of those who aren't professional performers, but are still inspiring a different platform to promote themselves."

Around 2000 people pre-voted for the top 10 from 24 entrants. The top 10 will be on show tonight from 4pm to 8pm.

People need to go to the Government Gardens to vote and register at the tent outside The Blue Baths where they will receive two tokens. They vote for their favourite busker by throwing a token into the hat of their person of choice. Two extra votes can be purchased for $1 with the profits going towards the Rotorua Community Hospice. Voting ends at 7.30pm and the winner will be announced before the competition closes at 8pm.

There will be lots of family-friendly activities on site, with bubbles soccer, volley ball, a GLO Illusions workshop with arts and crafts and giant chess.

The inaugural competition is part of the three days of entertainment that makes up the Glo Festival from tonight through to New Year's Eve on Thursday.

"Given its proven success this year we would love to see it continue and grow next year," Ms Smith said.

First placegetter will win $1500, second place $1000 and judges' choice $500. The winner will get to perform at the GLO Party on New Year's Eve at the Rotorua Lakefront. The New Year's Eve Glo Party will feature acts including JGeeks, Jordi Webber, Rotorua local Awa from Nesian Mystic joined by Bella Kalolo and Stylus.
