A snowfall warning has been issued for the Desert Rd tonight.

MetService said snow showers were expected to affect high parts of the road from midnight tonight and the rest of the road during tomorrow.

Between midnight tonight and midnight Saturday 5 to 10cm of snow is expected to fall.

Meanwhile showers turning to rain is forecast for Rotorua and Taupo today. Early rain should clear to a fine day tomorrow with a sunny but frosty weekend expected for both centres.
