Snow and ice closes Desert Rd

Snow and ice has forced the Desert Rd to close this morning.

Bay of Plenty police are warning drivers who were planning to travel along State Highway 1 to expect delays.

A diversion set up will add at least 40 minutes on your journey, police said.

State Highway 47 from Turangi to National Park is also closed.

The Napier-Taupo Highway is opened but motorist are urged to drive to the winter conditions.

"We are [asking] all drivers to please take extra care this morning."
