The figures are part of Statistics New Zealand's iwi profiles, which break down the number of members living throughout the country.

There were 279 people who affiliated with Ngati Tarawhai who took part in the Census.

• The median age was 29.5 years.
• 11.7 per cent identified Tarawhai as their sole iwi affiliation. A total of 88.3 per cent also affiliated with other iwi.
• 55.9 per cent could hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Maori.

For people aged 15 years and over, affiliating with Tarawhai and living here on March 5, 2013:

• 50 per cent stated that they had never been a regular smoker.
• 81.7 per cent held a formal qualification.
• The median income was $20,200.
• 65.3 per cent of those living in main urban areas were in the labour force.
