A woman is recovering in hospital tonight after falling 30m while skiing on Mt Ruapehu.
Emergency services were called out to the site this afternoon where the Auckland woman, in her 50s, fell on ice and plummeted 30m over a bluff and down a steep slope.
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was also required to rescue the woman off the slopes of the mountain, near the Turoa Ski Field boundary.
Staff from the ski field and emergency workers managed to retrieve the woman from tough terrain that did not allow the rescue helicopter to land.
The woman was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital for treatment.
