Six taken to hospital after two-car crash at Wairakei roundabout near Taupō

Six people have been taken to hospital after a two-car crash near Taupō.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to the scene at the intersection of State Highway 1 and State Highway 5 about 2.21pm.

A St John spokeswoman said three ambulances and a helicopter were sent to the scene.

One patient with serious injuries was taken to Waikato Hospital by helicopter, she said.

One patient in serious condition, one in moderate condition and two with minor injuries were taken to Taupō Hospital by ambulance.

The road is now clear.
