For a new local theatre show director, making the side-splitting comedy Vicar of Dibley come to life has been great fun.

The Rotorua Little Theatre Society presents the show, starting this eveningand running until August 11 at the Shambles Theatre.

Director Robyn-ann Rumney says Vicar of Dibley is a well-known comedy show and is about a small English village which gets a new vicar who turns out to be a woman.

She says it is about how the people in the village all deal with having a woman vicar.

It includes a love story and has a lot of nice English comedy coming through, she says.

"I recommend everyone gets involved in theatre in some way... it's been an amazing journey for me."

The cast of eight and the backstage team of 11 started rehearsing in May.

"Rehearsals have been going very well. There are lots of nice characters coming through."

With show-time kicking off tonight, Robyn-ann says she is looking forward to the cast having fun with it.
