World champion BMX rider Sarah Walker has been named the sexiest woman in sport but far from basking in the glory, she just thinks it's "weird".
Kawerau-born and raised but now living in Cambridge, Walker topped a list of 50 nominees in the Yahoo!Xtra Sexiest Women in Sport Poll, which attracted
more than 3700 votes.
Walker received 903 votes with New Zealand White Ferns captain Aimee Watkins coming second with 865 votes. Third place went to Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic with 496 votes.
Walker, 21, said being recognised as sexy was "weird" and something she had yet to get used to.
Her mum told her about the poll and she didn't think she would have won, considering the amount of "beautiful women" included, Walker said.
"[Mum] said I definitely got all my looks from her.
"I definitely didn't expect to be nominated, let alone make the top 16, let alone win it."
The list of 16 finalists included Walker, Watkins and international sports stars Ivanovic, Anna Rawson, Brittany Lincicome, Caroline Wozniacki, Danica Patrick, Gina Carano, Kiira Korpi, Leryn Franco, Lindsey Vonn, Maria Kirilenko, Paula Creamer, Sasha Cohen, Stephanie Rice and Torah Bright.
Walker said her mum was "proud" that she had won the title and her boyfriend, rower Ian Seymour, "reckons he knew it the whole time".
Walker said being included in the poll would raise her profile as well as that of her sport which was a positive outcome.
Being from a small town like Kawerau, she said she never thought she could win a sexiest women poll or achieve everything she has so far, for that matter.
"The life I'm living now is beyond what I ever dreamed I could ever do."
Walker heads to the United States next weekend for training before the world championships in South Africa in July.
Yahoo!Xtra's sports editor Mike Kilpatrick said there weren't many sexiest women in sports polls that featured Kiwi sportswomen and this one gave a "unique Kiwi perspective".
He believed most of the voters were New Zealanders but was still "a little surprised" the Kiwis came out on top because many of the others were regulars on similar lists.
He said a Yahoo!Xtra Sexiest Men in Sport Poll would be run in the near future with the list of candidates still to be finalised.
THE TOP FIVE: * Sarah Walker 903 vote
* Aimee Watkins 865
* Ana Ivanovic 496
* Lindsey Vonn 325
* Danica Patrick 297
