There is a severe wind watch for Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty tonight.
MetService issued the watch saying west to northwest winds may rise to severe gale strength for a time this evening until early Saturday morning in much of the North Island including the Bay of Plenty.
Rain in the eastern Bay of Plenty has now eased and the watch for heavy rain is cancelled.
The forecast for Rotorua today is the odd shower which could become more frequent tonight. Showers are easing tomorrow with the forecast for Sunday fine.
