Seven local charities and community organisations received gifts from the Geyser Community Foundation totalling more than $22,000 recently.

In a press release, chairman of Geyser's Distribution Advisory Committee, Dr Kierin Irvine said projects that supported community services, early years and youth development featured prominently in the Rotorua district again this year.

Two Rotorua initiatives are receiving multi-year funding.

"We hope this saves the recipient organisation time and provides surety for a few years so they can focus on their core business."

Applications totalling more than $70,000 were received by Geyser this year.

Geyser Trustees approved gifts totalling $44,570.

All requests for funding are assessed by Geyser's Distribution Advisory Committee, a group of six volunteers representing the Taupo and Rotorua communities, who give their own time and expertise in considering the applications.

As a funding manager, Geyser is provided with The Tindall Foundation funds to distribute to charitable organisations in the Rotorua and Taupo districts.
