Serious crash near Whakatāne

One person has been injured in a crash near Whakatāne this afternoon.

Police have confirmed one person has been injured in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 2.

The crash, involving a car and a motorcycle, happened shortly before 1pm.

The motorcyclist is being taken to Whakatane Hospital in a serious condition.

Traffic control measures are being put in place and the Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

St John said it was also responding.

The fire service said two trucks were at the scene.
