Ngongotaha manager Jared Grace said his side was focused on beating their local rivals first and foremost and if they achieved that everything else would fall into place.
"It will be a very physical encounter, in terms of local derbies for us it doesn't get any bigger for Ngongotaha than playing Waikite at Waikite.
"With so much hanging in the balance as a result of this game, it's one that we've prepared for well and we believe we're in the best shape that we can be moving forward," Grace said.
To add yet more spice to this fixture, a spot in the Premier 2 semifinals brings with it a place in the premier division next season.
"To be fair, if we are unable to meet this challenge with Waikite I don't know how we would rise to the challenge each week in the premier division.
"Either way this is going to be a good gauge to see if we have what it takes to foot it with the best in a competition that requires that sort of intensity every week."
Waikite coach Kevin Lee said, after the wild weather this week, it would be a wet game but his side would not change their approach.
"I want to see them play with their usual enthusiasm, we haven't beaten [Ngongotaha] in a couple of years.
"The team they have is pretty stacked with premier players - we've only got club boys and boys straight out of school.
"It's a chance to see if we've improved since last time we played them," Lee said.
Waikite lost 34-29 to Paroa last week.
"We were in the game for quite a bit, but in the end couldn't finish it off so we just have to learn from that.
"[Getting into the premier division] wasn't really a goal for us at the start of the season but it's sort of eventuated that we're in this position so we just have to see what happens."
Meanwhile, Marist St Michael's are in seventh place and cannot make the top four, but they can still play a role in deciding who plays semifinal rugby when they take on Whakatane.
Coach Mike Lewis said his side's goal for the last game of the season was to get another win on the board.
"We feel like we've put in enough hard work this season and the boys have been awesome to deal with - they haven't stopped trying all year.
"Their heads have never gone down, the results have to come eventually and we've got one more shot at it.
"We've improved out of sight, the results sort of don't show it but I think when we look at where were last year - struggling to get 15 players on the field and losing by 60-70 points every weekend - I think we're light years ahead.
"A win would be a great way to finish the season, we have a few boys retiring or heading overseas so it would be good to send them off well," Lewis said.
