Was your wedding out of this world? Now is your chance to be named Rotorua's Bride of the Year.

Last night the launch party was held for the Rotorua Daily Post Hitched Bride of the Year - the search for the bride and groom who had the wedding of their dreams.

It is being organised by the Rotorua Daily Post and The Wedding Guy to promote the city as the ultimate wedding destination. The launch was at the Holiday Inn and will also be the venue for the Bride of the Year celebrations next year.

"We want to attract more people to Rotorua and for people to see it as the quintessential wedding destination," said The Wedding Guy's Peter Duncan. "The winner will have had the whole package, it's all about their experience with their providers. It doesn't matter if it was big budget, eco-friendly, organised in two weeks ... it's all about why they feel they should win - the bride's story is significant. We want to celebrate all brides."

The winning couple will receive a five-day holiday to Rarotonga, courtesy of Harvey World Travel, as well as feature on the cover of the wedding planner magazine.

Rotorua Daily Post advertising manager Janine Davy said Rotorua was one of the few regions not to celebrate its wedding industry.

"We want to support the wedding industry and promote that Rotorua is a destination for weddings," she said. "Also for people in Rotorua to know they have a beautiful spot right on their doorstep, so why look elsewhere?"

There will be prizes for second and third place as well as a People's Choice award, which will be voted for by readers. Entries are open and limited to 20 brides, who must have been married in the Rotorua region. The awards ceremony will be on May 30, 2014 at the Holiday Inn.
