An exhibition of sculptures produced by some of Rotorua's emerging artists as well as some of the most successful, is on show to benefit youth in the city.
Rotary Club of Rotorua Sunrise, with the help of curator and artist Trevor Nathan, held the Rotorua Sculpture Exhibition over the weekend with
the shores of Lake Rotorua as the backdrop.
In a bid to reach as many people as possible, the exhibition will also run over Easter weekend.
This is the second year the event has run, and this year money raised will be given to the Rotovegas Youth Centre.
Last year money was raised for the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.
Rotary Club of Rotorua Sunrise community director Bob Gardner said this year the exhibition showcased 92 installations from 32 artists - most of them local.
He said despite the wet weather on Saturday, the exhibition opening was a success.
"The work on display really is amazing," he said.
"We had quite a few people come through the exhibition over the weekend and so far we have sold nine sculptures."
Mr Gardner said the commission from the sale of the sculptures would go towards the Rotovegas Youth Centre.
Mr Nathan said the exhibition featured the "freshest" and most diverse collection of New Zealand sculptural works seen in Rotorua
"We are showcasing as much local talent as possible," he said.
Artists include Anna Korver, Steve Molloy, Chris Moore, Jocelyn Pratt, Joe Kemp, George Andrews and Jamie Pickernell.
The exhibition was about celebrating sculptural work, with contemporary and traditional works on offer, Mr Nathan said.
The Rotorua Sculpture Exhibition is in the La Grouw's garden at 22 Tupara Cres, Kawaha Point. It will be open again on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.
