Te Manaia said his brother had been made deputy head boy at Rotorua Boys' High School.
"He was really proud that there are two leaders in the family."
All three students agreed they were ready to take on the extra responsibility and act as role models for their fellow students.
Te Maru teacher in charge Chris Brewer said she was thrilled for the students.
"I am passionate about inclusiveness in the school and I think it's great our students have a shot at prefect."
Ms Brewer said this announcement showed growth at Western Heights High School.
"The school is leaps and bounds ahead and can be used as an example for inclusiveness and integration in other schools around the region and wider New Zealand.
"Every year we are seeing more acceptance of students with special needs by students in mainstream classes and it shows as a school we are breaking down those barriers.
"This is real history in the making for our school and our students."
