Walkers from Russia are among those set to join locals at the Rotorua Walking Festival.
There are 27 Russians confirmed for the recreational walking event to be held on March 18 and 19.
The festival attracts walkers from all over the world including those from Europe, Asia, and Australia, aswell as people from all over New Zealand.
Walk organiser Deryck Shaw said people took part due to the range of scenery in Rotorua.
"The walk is the only one that is accredited through both the IML Walking Association and the International Association of Popular Sports, and walkers get the opportunity to meet New Zealanders and learn more about New Zealand."
Mr Shaw said the festival, which is in its 24th year, attracted many repeat walkers because it was affordable for individuals and families.
"The distances involved could be a challenge for those getting involved in walking, with a 10km walk on one day, to those experienced who could walk up to 72km on both days combined, with a marathon walk in the forest on Saturday and a 30km walk on the Sunday."
All walkers who participate both days receive special medals.
This was the chance for those that had made new year resolutions to get out and walk the talk, Mr Shaw said.
"Many people enter as a team with their workmates and family and some with boot camp groups looking for a challenge for the year."
Early bird entries close on January 25 and walkers can enter up until the day of the event. For further information visit www.rotoruawalkingfestival.org.nz.
