Tickets for the popular Nightmare at the Museum event go on sale tomorrow and organisers are predicting they will sell out quickly.

Titled The Dark Arts, the event sees participants wind their way through the horrifying passages of The Arts Village on Friday September 7 and Saturday September 8.

Groups of six will venture through the dark corridors where evil forces lie in wait. The horror walk takes up to 15 minutes and you will witness first-hand as innocent souls are tormented with the bizarre rituals of the dark arts and black magic.

The production continues the partnership between Rotorua Museum and Wildside Promotions, with Layla Robinson leading the creative direction of the event for the fifth time.

"Our cast, crew and set design will transform The Arts Village, bringing to life the dark side of human nature so that participants go on a journey that both terrifies and enthrals," Robinson said.

Following the closure of Rotorua Museum in 2016, The Arts Village was chosen as the new venue for the event and its historic feel and flexibility of the spaces lends itself to the spine-tingling experience.

The venue is set with props, spooky sound effects, special lighting and terrifying trickery while the volunteer actors bring to life the ghastly storyline and scares when you least expect them.

Rotorua Museum event co-ordinator Tori Williams said there had been a fantastic response to the volunteer recruitment with many returning to take part for a second and third time.

"The volunteers loved being part of the experience in 2016 and jumped at the chance to return and scare the 'bejeezus' out of people again.

"This year we are giving more people the chance to be part of the nightmare by creating ghoulish artwork that will form part of the horror walk at night, and then remain as an art exhibition during the day," she said.

Artists can enter up to two works into The Dark Arts Exhibition 2018 and completed entry forms need to be received by August 13 at 9am.

Tickets for The Dark Arts horror walk, for people aged 13 years and older, will be on sale via Eventfinda.co.nz for $20.
