However, in Hall Rd, Ngongotaha, almost one in five homes changed hands last year with nine of its 47 houses being sold at a median price of $370,000.
One of those homes was bought by Rachel Pearce and Bruce Lowe. The couple and their two children had been renting the house for about five months and snapped it up when the landlord decided to sell. "We do like living there ... It's a nice street with nice houses," Ms Pearce said. "It's handy for [Bruce] coming in to work at Hyundai Isuzu."
She said as the street was not a thoroughfare it was safer for kids than being on a main road. While perfectly happy in Ngongotaha, she said they weren't ruling out a move in the future, especially as their eldest daughter had just started at Otonga Rd Primary School.
When Chris and Kyra van der Vlugt bought their four-bedroom home in Otonga Rd 18 months [ago] it was that primary school - just up the road - that was a major attraction as they were then expecting their first child.
Mrs van der Vlugt said although the house needed work they knew it would be a good investment due to its location.
"What appealed to us was the house had only been on the market two days and other people had already put offers on it ... We knew it was good for resale then," she said. "The only thing is it's quite a busy road but you get used to it."
McDowell Professionals Real Estate agent Karl Hereford said buyers sometimes asked about specific streets but generally it was about suburbs.
He said Springfield and Lynmore, which also features on the list, were consistently in demand.
Proximity to "good" schools, especially those with zoning, was also a big attraction and not just for parents, he said.
"People take that into account for resale as well," he said. "For parents with young kids, a lot really want them to go to Lynmore or Otonga or Westbrook ... It's quite important to a lot of parents."
Mr Hereford said Hall Rd was known as one of the best streets in Ngongotaha.
"There's lot of modern houses with a pretty good outlook out there."
He said a strong community spirit and good neighbours could also add to a street's appeal for buyers.
"I know of one street that has two or three gatherings on their streets every year where they all get together," he said. "People say how great it is that street has community spirit."
That could be a definite selling point, he said.
