We might be revealing one of Rotorua's best kept secrets, but nestled on the shores of Lake Rotoiti the Manupirua Springs Hot Pools are a unique Kiwi experience.

Accessible only by boat, these hot pools also known as the Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools make our list of the Essential 50 must do attractions around the region this summer.

The pools have six hot pools to choose from with different temperatures, nestled on the edge of the lake with views to rival any postcard.

While they're uniquely Kiwi and not too commercial, they've got everything you need on site including changing rooms and toilets.

And if it gets too hot in the pools, you can always cool down in the lake with a pontoon to play on and a slide from the jetty into the lake that is as much fun for the adults as for the youngsters.

Those who want to spend time at the pools can make use of the BBQ facilities available as well as picnic tables.

There are drinks and ice creams for sale from the pools, otherwise why not pull up at the jetty outside the Okere Falls store and get everything you need for a picnic on your way to the pools.

The pools are open every day from 8am to 10pm. There is an entry cost.
