You've been up the mountain, paddled in one of the lakes, visited the CBD and had a thrill at our many attractions. What next? The Lakeland Queen features as an essential as it is an icon on Lake Rotorua.
The boat is modelled on Mississippi river boats and the "charmof yesteryear". It is a style of boat unique to New Zealand and known as a stern-wheel paddle-driven boat and was originally designed for shallower waters, which makes it perfect to coast on Lake Rotorua. It was built in 1986.
Whether it's a breakfast, coffee, lunchtime or dinner cruise or a Halloween ball, farewell party or a magic night, the Lakeland Queen is suited to all kinds of occasions and has hosted gigs, weddings and corporate cruises.
This Sunday there will be a special two-hour Family Fun Cruise with a magic show and buffet meal. The Lakeland Queen also hosts Babe's Big Day Out for parents and their children. Under-5s are free so it's a great opportunity for mums to get together for a change of scenery.
If you suffer from motion sickness there's little chance of getting seasick as the boat cruises at a leisurely pace.
The Lakeland Queen is moored at the Rotorua Lakefront with tickets booked from the waterfront kiosk.
The Rotorua Daily Post Essential 50 lists the city's must-see, must-do and must-try activities and experiences thanks to reader nominations. We'll be highlighting one every day over summer.
