Rotorua's elderly community are in for a treat this weekend with a concert showcasing local talent.

This year's Mayoral Golden Years Concert is being held todayfrom 1pm to 3.30pm at the Energy Events Centre for Rotorua's retired community.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick said this year they were lucky to have the Rotorua Lakes Performing Arts Company curate the show.

She said Rotorua's talented locals would perform a range of classical and contemporary music, dance, drama and singing for the audience.

Some of the acts performing in the concert include Raukura Kapa Haka, Harcourts Dancing with the Stars dance couple Evelyn Falconer and Alex Wilson, violinist Rosa Hook, Anne Samson School of Ballet, singer Elisha Hulton and a Filipino Solo Dance.

Chadwick said it was a fun afternoon and celebrated those in the 'golden years' who have done, and continue to do, so much for the community.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new ones.

"It's also great to see the talented performers and enjoy a lovely afternoon tea."

Lakes Performing Arts Company managing director Rebecca Brake said the company was approached and given the opportunity to put forward a proposal which was accepted.

"Just being asked to be involved is an honour in itself and we feel privileged to be involved in such a wonderful community event for our golden agers."

She thought it was always important to acknowledge and support the older community, and for them to see the talent and passion that is in the Rotorua community.

"It might be that sometimes they don't have the opportunity to see these amazing performers.
