The Government Gardens will be a trove of handmade treasures and bargains with Art in the Park on this weekend.

It is being held on Sundayfrom 10am to 4pm.

The Arts Village director Mary-Beth Acres says Art in the Park is an annual arts event which includes a wide range of artist market stalls, live music, and food.

She says this year there are more than 70 artist stalls, plus a good selection of food stalls.

"We really enjoy being able to create this environment for creatives and their audience to connect.

"A big part of what we do is to create opportunities for artists to work, create, and support themselves, and this event is part of that."

Mary-Beth says the event also helps make the arts accessible to the public, which sits well within The Arts Village's values.

"In addition to this, it is always such a fun day for our team, and it is great seeing others having a good time too."

She says The Arts Village encourages the public to go along as it is an opportunity to find some great unique art and craft pieces, support creatives, and enjoy live music.

The event is free to attend and is family-friendly.

There will be a free art activity for children, and this year there is a pop-up art show in the Te Runanga Tea Rooms, run by Friends of the Museum.
