Rotorua's Village Green will turn into a sea of pink tomorrow as locals take part in the 10th annual Rotorua Pink Walk.

Organised by the Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust, the event is a 3.4km family-friendly fun walk that raises funds to support breast cancer patients in Rotorua and surrounding communities.

There will be entertainment, with Aunty Bea and Turanga Merito taking to the stage before the walk begins.

A limited run of T-shirts will be available to buy for $15 at the Pink Walk.

Friend of the Trust, Simone Walker, said for the anniversary there would also be a children's zone with a bouncy castle and face-painting, with a koha entry.

There will be prizes for best dressed male, female, child and team, as well as a newly introduced trophy for best dressed business team.

Ms Walker said all proceeds received stayed within the region.

The Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust has helped about 100 breast cancer patients and their families in the past year.

"It's really great to support something where the money stays local and supports local people in need."

Ms Walker encouraged people to come down and be a part of the sea of pink.

Community called to make a sea of pink for breast cancer

"The effort people put into their costumes is incredible," she said.

"We are just really looking forward to the community getting behind this and enjoying a night of fun and fundraising."

The Arts Village manager Mary-Beth Acres said staff and people who considered themselves friends of The Arts Village were walking as a group and would be dressed up in the theme of Where the Pink Things Are.

It was an important cause to get behind because everyone knew somebody who had been affected by it, she said.

"One of our Pink Walk team members, who responded to our call-out on Facebook, has just gone through treatment for breast cancer."

She said it had been fun making this year's costumes and they would have a big Where the Pink Things Are book, two Maxes and 20 beasts.

People can register online until 5pm todayat www.rbct.co.nz/pinkwalk or walkers can register at the event.
