Rotorua's newest restaurant, Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, will open its doors to the public on Monday.
Construction of the restaurant on the corner of Maisey Place and Fairy Springs Rd began on February 28 and the restaurant has employed 50 staff following a recruitment open day in Rotorua early last month,
which attracted 350 applicants.
Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers marketing manager Fay Stretch said about 100 invited guests were expected at the grand opening at 5.30pm tomorrow, including Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters and some Rotorua District councillors.
Ms Stretch said construction had gone to plan and the restaurant was opening on time.
She said staff had undergone training this week and she was expecting the restaurant to be "crazy busy" on Monday when the doors opened at 7am, as that was normally what had happened at other restaurants when they had opened around New Zealand.
A powhiri will be held at the restaurant at 7.30am on Monday.
The 2022sq m site includes a restaurant with seating for 65 people, a drive-through and a car park for 20 vehicles.
Access will be off Maisey Place.
The Rotorua restaurant's interior has a more contemporary feel than establishments in Auckland, where the company was based.
