A tank load of trout from Rotorua will be trucked to a small hydro lake south of Waikaremoana.

Fish & Game Eastern Region will release 500 rainbow and 200 brown trout reared at their Ngongotaha hatchery.

Fish & Game officer Mark Sherburn said 700 fish were released annually into the small hydro lake which is maintaining its reputation for some nice brown trout in particular, that at times have tipped the scales at over 4.5kg.

"Both locals and anglers from around the country enjoy the fishing at Tuai and Kaitawa."
