"We got an email from Slingshot saying coding had made it available for their customers, so we have had it for probably close to a year.
"With Netflix I find it awesome for TV series. I still go to DVD stores for DVDs, so I still tend to buy movies that way and rent that way, but TV series you can never rent them for long enough - you can't get through 20 episodes in a week. With Netflix you pay the subscription fee, then you can watch anything you like.
"I have been rehashing old series like House, Grey's Anatomy, and you can also watch new ones like American Horror Story."
She said interruption-free viewing was a big drawcard.
"When I press to play an episode, I see zero advertising. It starts at the opening credits and finishes at the closing credits, so that's awesome. I hate on TV how the ads always seem louder than the show."
There are many cheap options on the market, you just need to do your homework, Rotorua's Jamie Otter said.
Mr Otter and wife Christie have had the US version of Netflix for about five months.
"There is not a lot that interests us on regular TV now, so it's nice.
"We just had normal TV. I always wanted to have Sky TV but because we had a young family it's just fairly expensive.
"We also have Chromecast, which just plugs into the HDMI on your TV and you just go through Google Chrome on your laptop, tablet, smartphone, whatever, and hit the button, and it's mean.
"We were on an internet plan that had 80gigs and we had a boarder, so that got chewed up really quickly, so we spent an extra $15 a month and got fibre unlimited. It is not an issue, no loading or buffering, it never stops."
Mrs Robinson said choosing what they watched took away the "mind numbing" effect of watching TV.
"When we used to have TV, we would just sit down at the end of the day, whereas nowadays you need to go to the computer and press play on an episode of a series.
"So it's not as mind numbing, because it's just not a constant thing, it's a selective thing."
