Members of the public have reported seeing a large group of Black Power gang members, some with patches, walking through the central city.

A police media spokeswoman said police had been made aware of a group of people behaving in an intimidating manner.

"Some were understood to have gang links."

She said police had "moved them on" to the outside of the CBD.

Two members of the public contacted the Rotorua Daily Post after seeing them.

One said the group was walking through the central city on Haupapa St.

Another said there were 16 people in the group walking past Spotlight, towards Kmart, and some were chanting gang slogans and using gang symbols as they walked together.

Two police cars were following the group slowly as they walked.
