There will be bargains of all sorts for people to browse through while also raising money to help an organisation which focuses on supporting local parents.

The Secondhand Kids Gear Sale is on Saturday September 1, 9am to 12pm, at Linton Park Community Centre. There is a gold coin donation for entry.

Rotorua Parents Centre committee member Olive Wales says the sale will include every type of children's and baby gear you can think of.

"Toys, books, clothes, nursery furniture, more toys, feeding equipment, carriers, maternity clothes - literally anything kid related will more than likely be there."

Olive says this is the first time she has personally organised the event, and is looking forward to being able to raise funds for the centre, creating a community atmosphere at the event and seeing it all come together.

She says giving people a chance to get a bargain is always good and it is usually a fun day.

"It's fun, full of bargains, supporting a good cause and there will be cake."

Goodie bags will be given to the first 200 people.

Olive says the centre is run by a committee of volunteers and the committee has decided to put all funds back into the centre this year.

Last year, funds were donated to the Rotorua Car Seat Clinic.

"There are many things the money could be spent on, but most likely will go on updated resources for our antenatal classes and professional development for one of our lead childbirth educators.

"Every bit helps to ensure the centre continues to run and provide the community with quality advice, information and support."

She says having this support available is important because parenting is hard.

"Parents need to know the basics of looking after their children to provide quality and necessary care.

"They also need to go into the journey of parents as informed individuals."
