With the closing date drawing closer, Rotorua high school students are encouraged to complete their WWI artwork to be in with the chance to win a $10,000 scholarship.
Entries close on April 4 at 5pm, and while there had been a great response so far Rotorua Museum's head of educationEmma Liley was keen to see as many entries as possible.
"It would be a shame to miss out on the amazing prizes on offer," Liley said.
"Ngāti Whakaue Education Endowment Trust generously provided the prizes, which include the Supreme Winner award, a $10,000 scholarship for further study, as well as a Wellington day trip with their art teacher to visit The Scale of Our War exhibition at Te Papa and a tour of Weta Workshop."
Commemorating the last year of the WWI centenary commemorations, students in Years 9 to 13 had to choose a Rotorua person from a list of researched WWI people and were asked to interpret an aspect of their story through one of seven visual art mediums – painting, print making, sculpture, moving image, photography, digital or mixed media.
Schools will select six finalist entries each which will form The Art of Remembering - Te Pū o Mahara exhibition that will be on display at The Arts Village from April 20 until May 25, encompassing Anzac Day.
Judges from Rotorua Museum, Ngāti Whakaue Education Endowment Trust and Rotorua RSA will select the Supreme Winner from the finalists, along with several Excellence in Art Awards who will receive $1000 scholarships.
Students who are interested in finding out more about the competition should speak to their school art departments or visit www.rotoruamuseum.co.nz/education/nz-schools/artofrememberingww1/.
