Locals will be able to see what the Rotorua Model Railway Club is all about at an open day.

The open day is being held at the Pererika St clubrooms on Saturday and Sundayfrom 10am to 4pm.

Entry costs $3 for adults, $1 for children and $6 for a family.

Club captain Craig Iddles says it is an opportunity for the general public to come into the club and see what it has on display.

He says it is a low-key weekend and a great, cheap few hours of entertainment.

"If just half a dozen come through and enjoy themselves, I think we've achieved our goal."

There will be five layouts set up, including an old British Hornby layout and a Thomas the Tank Engine one, he says.

Craig says the club tries to promote model railways and holds clinics on various different aspects, such as how to scale trees and landscaping.
