Rotorua is set for a spooky weekend as Halloween brings fun activities for the whole family.

Although Halloween night is not until Tuesday, the Sulphur City Steam Rollers will get into the Halloween spirit on Saturday with their annual skate spooktacular.

They will bring exciting roller derby, free face painting, costume competitions, half-time entertainment, a Time Warp dance-off and more to the Southern Trust Sportsdrome.

Organiser Layla Robinson said it would be an event like people had never seen before.

"The kids will love how fast we skate and the adults will love how full contact it is. It's a full night of entertainment."

Halloween is also coming back to Rainbow Springs with a festival of fun from 2pm this Saturday.

There will be a pumpkin art competition and entertainment all afternoon from DJ Funkenstein, The Rotorua Symphonic band, songstress Georgia Barnard, the Samba Zombie Trio and fire entertainers.

On the spooky day itself, the team at RotoFobia Escape Adventure Rooms have prepared a day of Halloween activities, dress ups, games and prizes.

Executive mistress of escape Inga Eglite said they had the perfect venue and they did not want to miss out on Halloween.

"It's a cool community event, not just for adults we have got fun for the kids as well."

The rooms will be open from 10am till 8pm with after school activities for the children from 3pm till 5pm.

For the children there will be games and puzzles, creepy music, Halloween outfit competitions, balloon and bubble fun, chalk monster drawing, sticky tattoos and a creepy family photograph.

For those who want to take on one of the two adventure rooms it will be a first in-first served basis.

If you don't have anyone brave enough to come along with you, Ms Eglite said they were trialling "play with a stranger".

"We have no idea how it will go, but hopefully it will be a lot of fun and a little bit creepy."

The two "play with a stranger sessions" will be on at 5pm and again at 6.30pm.
