The Hits Beach Dig at the Hannahs Bay Reserve.

Eyes have been keeping a close watch on the weather forecast in The Hits Rotorua office this week as the annual Beach Dig event draws closer.

If the weather behaves, children will be able to descend on Hannahs Bay tomorrowand have fun digging for prizes.

The Hits Beach Dig is a free event for children aged 3 to 13.

Every little digger is guaranteed a prize, thanks to McDonalds Rotorua and Reduced To Clear.

Hundreds of numbered sticks will be buried in the sand, and each stick corresponds to a numbered prize bag with prizes from local business.

These include Reduced To Clear, Diversion Maze Park, Reading Cinemas, Rotorua Aquatic Centre, Rotorua Duck Tours and more.

Registrations open at 9.30am and the dig starts at 10.30am. This year children need to be registered and it is limited to the first 400 children.

The Hits Rotorua presenter Paul Hickey said it was neat to see the smiles and changing reactions on the children's faces, from getting into the excitement of the dig, to finding a stick, then collecting their prize bag full of goodies.

"You don't get much for free nowadays, so it is pretty rewarding for us to do all the work and make this happen for the young families in our community.

"However, it wouldn't be possible without the generous support of other like-minded businesses."

McDonalds Rotorua franchisee Linley Parry said McDonalds Rotorua was pleased to be the main sponsor of the fun family event again.

"It's just fantastic it has gained such enormous support from day one.
