The Rotorua Central Scouts are getting creative by putting together three-course meals for the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas appeal.
This year's Christmas Appeal, run in conjunction with the Rotorua Weekender and The Hits 97.5, is collecting non-perishable food and cash donations for the Salvation Army Foodbank.
Cub leader Aaron Williamssaid the Cubs were grouped into sections called sixes.
Each one had to put together a three-course meal of non-perishable foods, he said.
They have been set the task of putting together an entree, a two-part main with vegetables and something to go with them, and a dessert.
They will deliver the food to the Salvation Army on December 6.
Williams said one of the core functions of Scouts and Cubs was learning through activities and there was a programme set out each term with targets for an award scheme.
He said taking part in the appeal covered multiple targets, including visiting a place of worship, visiting a community service and donating to a charity.
"The Fill the Bus and can drive at this time of year, from what I've seen over the last couple of years, has been a big success and a big part of the Rotorua community."
He said it was great because people knew their donations were going directly to those in need.
Williams said they welcomed children aged 5 and up to try Scouts for a few weeks at their hall on the Lakefront.
